“Market Lady”…. Our Home, Magic Carpet and Amazing Yacht

S/Y “Market Lady”

Market Lady ghosting along

Apart from being what we believe to be one of the best sailing boats for cruising, particularly short handed, “Market Lady” is also our magic carpet, but most important,  she is  ‘OUR HOME’.

Departing Olbia, Sardinia

She is extremely solidly built, providing a very steady movement in a seaway, which in turn instils confidence in her ability to look after us, in even the toughest of conditions.

Her interior is fitted out primarily with teak woodwork, giving her a feeling of warmth and comfort below. She has plenty of storage for a boat of her size, in various lockers cupboards and drawers.

The forward cabin provides the main sleeping quarters, a large and comfortable double berth, along with a wardrobe and dressing table with drawers.

The Bunk                            Saloon

The saloon has a 6′ 6″ settee berth on either side of a central table, which when folded down is a mere 24″ by 10″, yet when fully extended can comfortably seat six. The chart table with built in navigational instruments is situated at the starboard after end of the saloon just forward of the heads. The heads provides the facilities of a sea toilet, shower and washbasin.

Heads           The Galley

Aft of the saloon on the port side is the galley with an oven, grill and two hob rings, chest fridge, and double sink.  There is stowage for crockery, cutlery, foodstuffs pots and pans etc. On our travels, our meals are very important to us and Margaret carries out the same amount of cooking and baking aboard, as she ever did ashore, all be it on a smaller cooker/oven

At the after end of the galley are the companionway steps leading to the cockpit, providing a comfortable outside sitting area with a removable table and seat cushions for use in port. Decks are teak laid and provide plenty of room to walk around the boat in safety.

Chart Table

The navigational area which is situated at the after end of the starboard side of the saloon, whilst compact, offers all necessary instrumentation though by modern day standards might be described as minimal. It has a full sized chart table which allows the spread of an admiralty chart which to his day, despite modern day advances which are truly amazing, Pete still believes is the core of good and safe navigation.

Designed by Robert Harris the Vancouver 32 was introduced in 1980 as a bigger sister to the already widely acclaimed Vancouver 27. We feel very privileged to be owners of a yacht of this caliber which has been heralded by the yachting press as “a truly outstanding cruising yacht”.

The Pheon Yachts and Vancouver Story

.

Margaret and I have been the owners of “Market Lady” since March 2004, nine magnificent years, and we really can’t imagine life without her. She is as stated our home and magic carpet, but most of all she is a yacht with qualities far beyond any we could have imagined. To us she is a one off, the best and most reliable boat we could have wished for, yet, really we know she is one of a kind, granted, a very special kind. There are quite a few just like her in every corner of the world. She is a Vancouver 32 and as such is part of

THE VANCOUVER LEGEND

I feel very privileged to be in contact with Andrew Dandridge, the son of John and Peggy Dandridge. This family created the legend which now lives on, and since Andrew and I were first in contact regarding “Market Lady”, I feel honoured that he has spared the time to tell me the story behind the legend. It is a very human story of a family that held infinite belief in what they were creating, the highs, and with it the heartbreaking lows,

I wanted to tell this story on our website, Andrew not only very kindly agreed, but assisted me so much by supplying details of his memories, good and bad. I thank him for the photos, for reading through my proof, and encouraging me to publish it on our site in addition to paying me the honour of adopting it on Pheon Yachts own site.

Finally I take this opportunity to thank Andrew, his Father John and his Mother, Peggy for creating …………
